The method involves discharging an electrochemical energy storage device (3) till a reduced charge level (SOCpark) by producing current in an electric machine (2) without causing movement of the machine when the vehicle is stationary. An inverter (5) installed between the energy storage device and the electric machine is controlled so that energy of the device is dissipated in windings (2.1, 2.2) of the electric machine. An isolation switch (I2) is closed for initiating the discharge of the device. An independent claim is also included for a vehicle, comprising an electric machine.
