Provided is a compound of formula (I), with defined substituents, for the inhibition of human viruses. An exemplary claimed compound is 5-[(7-chloro-4-quinolinyl)amino]-3[(diethylamino)methyl]-3',4'-dimethoxy-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2-ol. The compound inhibits viral infection and replication without cytotoxic effect on the cell.
