Disclosed herein is a compound of formula I wherein the substituents are as defined within the specification, provided that when X3 is CRx, only one of X1 and X2 is N; and provided that at least one of X1, X2 and X3 is N; methods for its preparation, compositions comprising said compounds and uses thereof. Said compounds are useful as inibitiors of Aurora protein kinases and are therefore useful in the treatment of proliferative disorders such as melanoma, myeloma, leukemia, lymphoma, neuroblastoma, or a cancer seleceted from colon, breast, gastric, ovarian, cervical, lung, central nervous system (CNS), renal, prostate, bladder, pancreatic, brain (gliomas), head and neck, kidney, liver, melanoma, sarcoma, or thyroid cancer.
