Disclosed is a salt of S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) of formula (I) wherein HX is a strong mineral acid having an acid dissociation constant (pKa) of less than 2.5 selected from hydrochloric acid, sulphuric / sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid, phosphorous acid, disulphonic / disulfonic acid and/or 1,4 butanedisulphonic acid; n and m are independently a number in the range of 0.5 - 2.0; Y is a calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, calcium sulphate, magnesium sulphate and/or a mixture thereof.
