<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To keep matching accuracy intact in spite of varying scan speed of a moving document type automatic document feeder (ADF) used in an image processing apparatus for reading images of documents, when registering paper fingerprints by means of the image processing apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: As an ADF moves a document, an image input section 52 scans the document in the feed direction in a reading position to read an image of the document. A paper fingerprint processing section 60 extracts and registers in a storage section 66 feature information on a paper fingerprint from the image within a registration area set in the document. The storage section 66 further stores information indicating a stable scan range of scan speed in the document as precomputed scan speed information.
