<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a microorganism which can assimilate sorbitol in a culture medium with sorbitol as a sole carbon source by imparting sorbitol-assimilating capability to a host microorganism incapable of assimilating sorbitol. <P>SOLUTION: The recombinant microorganism which can assimilate sorbitol in the culture medium with sorbitol as the sole carbon source is obtained by incorporating a gene encoding a sorbitol dehydrogenase and a gene encoding a sorbitol transporter into the host microorganism incapable of assimilating sorbitol. As for the host microorganism, a yeast selected from a group including genus Saccharomyces, genus Kluyveromyces, genus Schizosaccharomyces, genus Zygosaccharomyces, genus Yarrowia, genus Hansenula, genus Pichia and genus Candida is used, and the microorganism belonging to the genus Saccharomyces or genus Kluyveromyces is preferable. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
