<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely determine an edge of a document transported on a transport path. <P>SOLUTION: An image reading apparatus (U3) includes: a light transmitting member (PG) that is arranged at a preset document reading position (Pr), on a transport path (23), where a document (Gi) is read and that allows light to pass therethrough; a light source device (11) that is arranged opposite the transport path (23) across the light transmitting member (PG) and that emits light through the light transmitting member (PG) toward the document (Gi) being transported through the document reading position (Pr); a reading section (7) that reads an image of the document (Gi) based on light reflected from the document (Gi); and a reflecting member (28) that is arranged opposite the light transmitting member (PG) across the transport path (23) and that reflects light passing through the light transmitting member (PG), toward a light receiving element (CCD).
