METHOD OF CODEBOOK DESIGN AND PRECODER FEEDBACK IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION SYSTEMS

A method for two component feedback in wireless communication systems wherein a wireless communication device sends a first representation of a first matrix chosen from a first codebook, the first matrix is a N-by-N diagonal matrix with the k-th diagonal elements being s 1*exp(jp(k-1)m/N), for k from 1 to N/2 and being s 2*exp(jp(k-N/2-1)m/N) for k from N/2+1 to N, N is a number of antennas, m is an integer between 0 and N-1, and s 1, s 2 are complex valued scalars. The device also sends a second representation of a second N-by-R matrix chosen from a second codebook, with R being a number of spatial layers wherein the first and second representations together convey a precoder matrix as the matrix product of the first and second matrices.
