<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new microorganism for detoxifying 1,2-dichloroethane, to provide applications thereof, besides, to provide an enzyme for detoxifying 1,2-dichloroethane, to provide a gene encoding the enzyme, and to provide their applications. <P>SOLUTION: Genus Geobacter bacteria for degrading 1,2-dichloroethane into ethylene by anaerobic dechlorination reaction are provided.
