A gaming system, a gaming machine and a method is provided in which the player plays a primary game or a base game on a gaming device. During the play of the primary game or the base game, the player accrues value points. At one or more times, a player participates in a bonus event. The player may apply accrued value points to the bonus round to increase a payout for a winning bonus event result. The bonus event may be triggered randomly or it may be triggered when the player accrues a threshold number of value points. If the bonus event is triggered before the player reaches the threshold value any value points which were not already allocated to the bonus event by the player are lost. The bonus event may comprise an online-related social-networking game. |
