USE, IN PAPER COATING SLIPS, OF AMPHIPHILIC AND NON-WATER-SOLUBLE COMB (METH)ACRYLIC POLYMERS

The invention consists of the use, in paper coating slips, of non-water-soluble polymers with a comb structure, having a (meth)acrylic backbone, grafted onto which are side chains containing at least one hydrophobic monomer of C1 to C4 (meth)acrylic ester or styrene type and at least one hydroxy or methoxy polyalkylene glycol monomer. The contents of monomers are such that said polymer is amphiphilic, since it is both rich in hydrophobic monomer and in polyalkylene glycol monomer. These products, used in paper coating slips, make it possible to increase the BrookfieldTM viscosity thereof, to reduce their ACAV viscosity and to improve their water retention, which makes them particularly well suited for coatings having a high solids content and/or high deposition rate. Another subject of the invention relates to the coating slips thus formulated.
