The method involves gluing an attachment cardboard box (3) on a basic cardboard box (1), where the attachment cardboard box covers a surface of a surface structure. An edge contour of the surface structure is released from the attachment cardboard box by a punching process. A completely glued cover is glued on the basic cardboard box and the attachment cardboard box and is pressed with a draw roll. Embossing is performed in the attachment cardboard box or in the basic cardboard box after gluing the cover. An independent claim is also included for a relief-like surface structure at cardboard-like substances or paperboard-like substances in the form of cardboard boxes, such as bindings of print works e.g. books and brochures.
