PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To derive a MTU value between end points on a communication path over a network highly accurately and swiftly.

SOLUTION: A communication device comprises: a transferring means for transferring a received frame based on an identifier included in the received frame; a calculating means for calculating the size after the identifier is given which is the size of the received frame after the identifier is given when the received frame is a specific frame; a notifying means for generating an intransmissible notification frame which has a transmission source communication device of the received frame as a destination by giving a value no more than a transmissible size when the size of the received frame after the identifier is given is larger than the size transmissible to a next transfer destination communication device on a communication path and for transferring the intransmissible notification frame to the transferring means; and a retransmitting means for correcting the size of the specific frame to be no more than the transmissible size and for transferring to the transferring means when receiving the intransmissible notification frame.
