<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for operating a gas turbine. <P>SOLUTION: A system for operating the gas turbine (12) includes a compressor (14), a combustor (16), and a turbine (18). The combustor and turbine define a hot gas path. A sensor (54) disposed outside the hot gas path measures internal thermal emissions from the combustor or turbine and generates a first signal (60) reflective of the internal thermal emissions (infrared or ultraviolet emissions). A controller (56) connected to the sensor adjusts the compressor, combustor, or turbine in response to the first signal. A method for operating the gas turbine includes stages of measuring the internal thermal emissions from inside the combustor or the turbine using the sensor disposed outside the hot gas path, generating a first signal reflective of the internal thermal emissions, and adjusting the operation of the compressor, combustor, or turbine in response to the first signal from the sensor. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
