<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic electroluminescent element which exhibits high luminous efficiency, has a long luminous lifetime and has fewer luminous defects, and a display unit and a lighting device having the organic electroluminescent element. <P>SOLUTION: An organic electroluminescent element comprises a first electrode, a structure layer containing at least a luminous layer, and a second electrode laminated on a substrate in this order. Light is emitted from the second electrode side.
