<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To smoothly and automatically switch gases when using two gas supply sources, that is, an air pump and a carbon dioxide gas cylinder. <P>SOLUTION: A light source device 12 is provided with an air pump 41 along with a light source lamp 40. The air pump 41 is rotary driven by a pump driving circuit 42 having a rotation number controller 43 for supplying pressurized air. By using a gas supply flow rate adjusting unit 51, a carbon dioxide gas is supplied to an endoscope, and a gas using a carbon dioxide gas and water are delivered. When the remaining amount of the carbon dioxide gas of the cylinder 50 is detected and the detected pressure P1 of the carbon dioxide gas becomes less than a predetermined value PS1, the air pump 41 is rotated to supply pressurized air. The rotation number of the air pump 41 is controlled, and the same amount of pressurized air is supplied as that of the supplied carbon dioxide gas. The switching to the pressurized air is automatically performed.
