<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a four-cycle engine with an EGR mechanism, having further improved fuel consumption. <P>SOLUTION: The engine 10 is provided with the EGR mechanism 101. The EGR mechanism 101 includes a gas storage chamber 100, and a connection passage 110 connecting the end of an exhaust passage 31 on the side of a combustion chamber 40 to the gas storage chamber 100. An end 110e of the connection passage 110 on the side of the exhaust passage 31 extends along a direction diagonal to a straight line L passing between the center of a portion of the exhaust passage 31 connected to the connection passage 110 and an axial center AX of a cylinder 51 in view from the axial direction of the cylinder 51. A valve drive mechanism 16 is provided with an overlap period T<SB POS="POST">0</SB>. It drives an intake valve 22 and an exhaust valve 32 so that an after-top-dead-center overlap period T<SB POS="POST">2</SB>is longer than a before-top-dead-center overlap period T<SB POS="POST">1</SB>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
