<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller capable of appropriately reducing processing loads when executing control based on rectangular wave control. <P>SOLUTION: The controller includes: a control mode determination unit 20; voltage command value determination units 33, 43; a control signal generation unit 23; and an operation period setting unit 21 for setting the operation period of the control signal generation unit 23 at a first period which is N times (N is an integer equal to or larger than 1) of a reference operation period set at 1/2 of a carrier period, and setting the operation period of the voltage command value determination unit 43 at a second period which is M times (M is an integer equal to or larger than 2) of the first period, when a control mode determined by the control mode determination unit 20 is a pulse width modulation control mode.
