<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle control device that can more properly perform deceleration of an own-vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The vehicle control device obtains traveling information on a preceding vehicle which travels in front of the own-vehicle 1 in a traveling direction, and generates in the own-vehicle 1 the deceleration same size to the deceleration of the preceding vehicle 100 in the obtained travel information, until the inter vehicle time between the preceding vehicle 100 before deceleration of the preceding vehicle 100 and the own-vehicle 1 passes, when the preceding vehicle 100 slows down in follow-up travel control to follow the preceding vehicle 100 based on the obtained travel information. Thereby the own-vehicle 1 can be decelerated without rear-ending to the preceding vehicle 100 from behind during deceleration of the preceding vehicle 100. Also, deceleration is performed by making the own-vehicle 1 generate the same size deceleration of the preceding vehicle 100 until the inter-vehicle time passes, and the deceleration is not performed more than required.
