PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photographing device that can allow a user to notice an insufficiency even when there is the insufficiency in a photographing preparation work to be conducted before housing a photographing device in a sealed container.

SOLUTION: In a video camcorder 100, whether it is shifted to an underwater mode or an on-the-water mode is determined. If it is determined to be shifted either of the modes, it is checked whether the photographing preparation work to be conducted before housing the video camcorder in a waterproof case is conducted or not.
