The procedure involves partially covering an adjustment element (3) having a radiation exit opening (4) of a headlight (2) of a vehicle (1), where the adjustment element is arranged on a transparent and/or translucent headlight cover. Environment of the vehicle is detected by a sensor. Transmittance of the sub-region of the adjustment element is controlled and/or regulated independence of the sensor information such that light distribution of the headlight is adapted to set respective environment. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a headlight of a vehicle.
