The arrangement has a press roller (9) supported by a bearing (15) on press roll axles (17), and a press roll axle collar (18) adjoined on a side of the bearing. An annular cavity (178) is formed between the bearing and the press roll axle collar. A rough element e.g. metal sheet lamina (174), is passed through the annular cavity for partially and freely holding the cavity during operation of the arrangement. A switching device is connected to a sensor e.g. temperature sensor, that detects ambient conditions in a region of the bearing.
