<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for detecting a target in an image or in a video. <P>SOLUTION: In the target detection method, an edge in a first direction in an input image is detected and an edge image having a plurality of edges in the first direction is obtained. One or more candidate targets are generated according to the plurality of edges in the first direction.
