<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a load of operator's work creating bar codes. <P>SOLUTION: A code reader of an embodiment comprises imaging means, capturing means, first reading means, second reading means, and output means. The imaging means takes images. The capturing means captures images of commodities taken by the imaging means. The first reading means detects an image of a code symbol representing commodity information from the image captured by the capturing means, and also reads commodity information represented by the code symbol from the detected code symbol image. The second reading means detects an image of a stamp representing date information from the image captured by the capturing means, and also reads date information represented by the stamp from the detected stamp image.
