<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polarization illumination device capable of not only emitting polarization with a constant polarization direction but also downsizing a polarization element to take out polarization. <P>SOLUTION: A polarization illumination device 100 comprises a plurality of light source parts 14 each of which consisting of a light emission part 10 and a reflection optical system 12 for reflecting light emitted from the light emission part 10; a polarization element 16 for taking polarization out of the light emitted from a plurality of the light source parts 14; a fly-eye lens 18 where the polarization taken out by the polarization element 16 enters; and parallel light converting means 20 for converting the light emitted from the fly-eye lens 18 to parallel light. The reflection optical system 12 is configured with a reflection mirror 13 substantially having a parabolic shape in cross section.
