The method involves accelerating vehicles (101, 102) from a state in an acceleration phase. A maximum positive wheel moment is transferred to a track at beginning of the acceleration phase. The vehicles are provided with a car-to-infrastructure communication device for receiving data from traffic lights (103, 108, 109, 110). The beginning of the acceleration phase is automatically selected based on the received data, where the data comprise time start and/or time length of light signal phases of the traffic lights. An independent claim is also included for a device for controlling a starting process of a vehicle.
