<p>A coupler (10) for a rail wagon comprises a coupler body (12) that has a shank (14) and a head (16) located at an end of the shank. A coupler latch member (18) may be pivotally mounted to an end of the head via spaced opposing bearing lugs (45, 46) that protrude from an end of the head in a clevis configuration. The latch member (18) also comprises a protruding portion (21) for receipt in a recess (22) of the head. The protruding portion (21) comprises at least two adjacent projecting lugs (30, 32). The recess (22) comprises at least two corresponding adjacent shoulders (37), (38) behind which each lug is located when the latch member protruding portion is received in the head recess. An elongate lateral lug (34) may project to the side of the protruding portion (21) in use, and the lateral lug may comprise an engagement surface that faces back to the latch member (18). In use, the lateral lug engagement surface can face a corresponding engagement face (36A) located within the head recess. The coupler (10) may also comprise a locking block (24) for location in the head recess (22) between the latch member protruding portion (21) and the head (16). The locking block can restrain the latch member (18) in a closed, latched position.</p> |
