<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spiral contraction actuator which can be miniaturized and made light and has high durability. <P>SOLUTION: The actuator includes: a first long actuator portion and a second long actuator portion, which confront each other; and a connection member connecting long sides of the first long actuator portion and the second long actuator portion. A part of the first long actuator portion and a part of the second long actuator portion are mutually separated, and thus the actuator becomes a hollow structure. Both of the first long actuator portion and the second long actuator portion have a pair of long electrodes and long electrolyte layers having electrolyte. The respective inner long electrodes are made to be the same cathode or anode electrodes, and respective outer long electrodes are made to be opposite electrodes to apply voltage.
