<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact, low power consumption, and low cost display device with a small circuit area and high reliability of operation in a memory part in which a controller IC and an interface circuit are formed on the same substrate as a display device substrate regardless of whether display data of all the pixels are transferred serially for every frame period to a liquid crystal module at high speed or not, and provide an appliance including this display device. <P>SOLUTION: A display device comprises on a first support substrate, a data holding circuit 3 with a capacity and a display part 4 with a plurality of pixel electrodes. Although a second support substrate 2 that faces the first support substrate 1 is provided over the display part 4, a counter substrate is not provided over a region where the data holding circuit 3 is disposed. Accordingly, since the parasitic capacitance of the data holding circuit 3 is small, the capacity of the data holding circuit 3 can be reduced, thereby reducing the area necessary for layout. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
