The present invention relates to an IP telephone system and method. The IP telephone system according to one embodiment of the present invention comprises: a phone; and a terminal which is connected to the IP phone, and which acquires the line state of said IP phone and the line state of IP phones connected to other terminals in the subnet to which the terminal belongs and in at least one other subnet to which the terminal does not belong, updates the line state information of the IP phones on a phonebook list, and transmits the updated information to said other terminals.
