A polarisation control device 360, an integrated circuit or a method comprises receiving and processing at least one first radio frequency (RF) signal to determine a phase mismatch between at least two RF feed paths of an antenna arrangement to a first RF signal. A phase shift adjustment is then applied to at least one of the said paths by a variable phase shifter 420 to at least one second RF signal applied to at least one of the said feed paths based on the determined phase mismatch and a desired polarisation of the at least second RF signal. The signal ports 432, 436 may be connected to at least two orthogonally polarised antenna elements. Directional couplers 404, 408, 430, 434 may detect signals at different ports between which are connected a 3 dB hybrid coupler 410 and a variable phase shifter 420. The directional couplers provide signals to a processing unit 490 which down converts the RF signals and filters them and converts the analogue signals into digital signals before applying calibration algorithms and memory data to determine a required feedback signal to control the phase shifter adjustment. The signal transmission path mismatch compensating system may be used to overcome the mismatches that result from cable and/or corporate feed networks used in polarised antenna array arrangements. |
