PURPOSE: A sheet transfer device with a buffer function and a sheet transfer method are provided to supply a buffer function onto a sheet transfer route by a simple structure. CONSTITUTION: An exhaust roller pair includes a driving roller and an idle roller. A first transfer route is connected to the exhaust roller pair. A second transfer route is branched from the first transfer route. Branch flaps(81,82) are installed between the branch parts of the first transfer route and the second transfer route. A sheet sensor(33) is installed on the first transfer route between the branch flaps and the exhaust roller pair.
