<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely determine whether or not an object predefined as the determination object exists in a prescribed region. <P>SOLUTION: In an obstacle recognition device, an obstacle search means 24 detects a reflection signal from a pedestrian expected to exist in the prescribed region, on the basis of a signal from the prescribed region acquired by a reception signal acquisition means 32, a characteristic quantity extraction means 36 extracts the intensity of the reflection signal, an existence probability calculation means 40 calculates the existence probability of the object on the basis of the characteristic quantity model of the reflection signal from the object acquired in advance and the extracted characteristic quantity, and absence probability calculation means 44 calculates the absence probability of the object on the basis of a characteristic quantity model of a noise signal and the extracted characteristic quantity.
