Pigment derivatives for waterborne coatings

This invention relates to pigment derivatives having the formula <CHEM> wherein Q represents an organic pigment moiety; X is -SO2- or -CO-; Alk is C2-C8 alkylene or substituted C2-C8 alkylene; m is an integer of from 1 to 4; n and p are independently integers of from 2 to 6. This invention further relates to the treatment of organic pigments with such pigment derivatives and the use of such treated pigments in coating compositions.
