The box 1 comprises a housing 2 with a main cavity 30 for housing sheet material, front and rear end walls 2A,2B, opposing side walls 2C,2D and a sealable opening in the rear wall, e.g. a hinged flap 31, through which sheet material can slide in and out of the main cavity. The housing 2 has connection means 11A,11B to two or more roof bars W,X on the vehicle. The housing 2 has supplementary cavities 40A, B with rear hinged flaps 41A, B to transport additional items, e.g. wood, pipes. Bars Y, Z, extend between these cavities 40A, B to accept further items, e.g. ladders.
