PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent the wear of a magnetic head which is provided with a floating type magnetic head and an optical pickup, and a magneto-optical disk. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a head lifting mechanism 5 for vertically driving a floating type magnetic head 3 with respect to the signal surface of a magneto-optical disk 1, a main control circuit 7 for controlling the operation of the head lifting mechanism 5, and a linear speed detecting circuit 72 for detecting the linear speed of the magneto-optical disk 1. The main control circuit 7 lowers the floating type magnetic head 3 on the signal surface of the magneto-optical disk 1 under the condition that in a signal recording mode, a linear speed detected by the linear speed detecting circuit 72 exceeds a head floating linear speed necessary for the floating of the floating type magnetic head 3.
