PURPOSE: A method for switching carrier in a wireless communication system and an apparatus thereof are provided to reduce the signaling overhead of a carrier switching. CONSTITUTION: A BS(Base Station) determines that an MS(Mobile Station) switches carrier(201). If the BS does not determine a time slot for carrier switching, the BS transmits a carrier switching request to the MS(202). The MS transmits a carrier switching response to the BS.
