PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader that can normally correct fluctuations in the light quantity before and after an intermittent operation even when a reference reflection member gets dirt. SOLUTION: In the case that it is discriminated that a reflected light quantity of a reference reflection member at a prescribed detection position in the subscanning direction of a light quantity correction means (Y in S54), the detected position of a reflected light is made variable in the reference reflecting member in the subscanning direction (S56) so as to make the reflected light quantity from the reference reflection member in the subscanning direction received by a line sensor sufficient. Thus, even though dirt is stuck to the detected position of the reflected light of the reference reflection member in the subscanning direction, for example and the reflected light quantity required for the correction cannot be obtained, as a result, since the detected position of the reflected light in the reference reflection member in the subscanning direction is changed into a position at which the reflected light quantity from the reference reflection member in the subscanning direction is made sufficient, the correction of fluctuations in the light quantity before and after the intermittent operation can normally be conducted.
