<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid-state image pickup device advantageous for reducing influence of signal delay due to enlargement of an image pickup region. <P>SOLUTION: Each of a plurality of image pickup blocks in the solid-state image pickup device having the image pickup region where a plurality of image pickup blocks are arranged includes: a pixel array where a plurality of pixels are arranged to constitute a plurality of rows and a plurality of columns; a plurality of vertical signal lines arranged in accordance with the plurality of columns; horizontal output lines which are disposed in common in the plurality of vertical signal lines and from which signals that are read in the plurality of vertical signal lines are read; a first scanning circuit; and a second scanning circuit. Signals of the pixel belonging to the selected row of the pixel array are read in the plurality of vertical signal lines in accordance with a driving pulse from the first scanning circuit. Signals which are read in the plurality of the vertical signal lines are sequentially read in horizontal signal lines in accordance with the driving pulse from the second scanning circuit.
