<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a variable valve timing device of an internal combustion engine precisely calculating a relative rotation phase of a camshaft relative to a crankshaft and calculating a phase variation amount of the relative rotation phase. <P>SOLUTION: A cam angle signal of an intake camshaft is formed by detecting one end and the other end of a target provided at an outer circumference of the intake camshaft. One of the one end and the other end of the target that forms a rise signal having higher response accuracy is used as a rise end, and the other is used as a fall end. The intake camshaft is provided with a rise end (retard angle end) corresponding to the first position having a smaller phase variation amount and a fall end (advance angle end) corresponding to the second position having a phase variation amount larger than that at the first position. The relative rotation phase of the intake camshaft is calculated as a real phase on the basis of a first rise signal DBA1 and a crank angle signal, and a phase variation amount is calculated on the basis of a first fall signal DBB1. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
