<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that a needle for tufting and a tufting gripper easily wear at a contact point with the needle. <P>SOLUTION: An additional insert 28 is provided in addition to a wear resistant cutting insert 27 for decreasing or preventing wear of a tufting gripper 16 at a contact point with a tufting needle. The additional insert is designed to mutually acting with the tufting needle. The additional insert is composed of a material that constitutes an optimal combination of sliding properties with the tufting needle. The additional insert is preferably an insert to protect a soft needle. The cutting insert is preferably a hard wear resistant insert.
