Disclosed is a MOS solid-state imaging element that produces little video distortion. Said solid-state imaging element is provided with: a plurality of pixels arrayed in a two-dimensional matrix, each of which outputs an initial-state electrical signal and a post-light-reception electrical signal; first column-signal lines (7) provided in correspondence with the columns of pixels, each column-signal line propagating the initial-state electrical signals and post-light-reception electrical signals from the corresponding column of pixels; a plurality of first holding circuits (2) provided in correspondence with the first column-signal lines (7), each first holding circuit holding the initial-state electrical signals and post-light-reception electrical signals propagated down the corresponding first column-signal line (7) from pixels; and a first difference circuit (3) that outputs differences between initial-state electrical signals and post-light-reception electrical signals held in the first holding circuits (2). Each first holding circuit (2) contains a number of unit holding circuits, each of which can hold an initial-state electrical signal and post-light-reception electrical signal from a pixel, equal to the number of pixels provided in correspondence with the corresponding first column-signal line (7).
