<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method by which a penetration bead formed on the inside of a U-shaped rib prevents stress concentration even when fillet welding is performed from one face on the outside of the U-shaped rib. <P>SOLUTION: In a method for welding a butting part between a deck plate 10 and a flange 24 of the U-shaped rib constituting a vertical plate, when an edge, which contacts with the deck plate 10, of the flange 24 is welded from one side (outside) of the flange 24, a penetration bead is formed on the other side (inside) of the flange 24 through the edge part. In this process, a backing strip 1 is arranged in a region, which corresponds to a region welded from the outside of the flange 24, inside the flange 24 so as to be brought into contact with the deck plate 10 and the flange 24.
