The present invention relates to a machine for folding a textile article, including a longitudinal folding module (M3). According to the invention, said machine comprises first (M1) and second (M) transverse folding modules arranged one behind the other upstream from the longitudinal folding module (M3) relative to the direction of travel (SA) of a textile article on the conveying means (9) of said machine, so as to separately and sequentially carry out two transverse folds of the textile article so as to reduce the length of the textile article before the longitudinal folding operation.
