<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically find and register a suitable value for securing precision of a response time and detection data that a user targets as the number of data of moving average operation. <P>SOLUTION: Input of at least one of a target value of a response time and an allowable value of a detection error is received as a parameter representing a condition for placing a displacement sensor 1 in operation, and teaching processing using a model for a workpiece is carried out. A CPU 110 in the teaching processing determines a maximum exposure time while repeating detection processing by a projection part 101 and a light reception part 102, calculates variance of measurement data on a displacement amount, and derives the number of data of moving average operation suitable to the input value of the parameter.
