Provided is a high pressure pump which is capable of simultaneously satisfying both the efficiency of fuel feed and the reliability of sealability and resistance to valve sticking. The high pressure pump includes a valve assembly which is made up of: a seat portion having a seat face to be seated on the circumferential edge seat surface of the opening of an insertion hole for the valve assembly; a stem portion which extends from the seat portion in the axial direction; and a plurality of guide blades which have a sliding contact surface to be in sliding contact with the inner circumferential surface of the insertion hole for the valve assembly and which are circumferentially disposed at predetermined intervals around the stem portion. The high pressure pump is adapted such that: the guide blades adjacent to each other in the circumferential direction and the inner circumferential surface of the insertion hole for the valve assembly define a fuel flow path; one of both the circumferential sides of the guide blade is provided with a protruding face which is protruded toward the fuel flow path to convert the kinetic energy of fuel into the axial rotational force of the valve assembly by allowing the fuel passing through the fuel flow path to collide with the protruding face; and when the valve assembly is viewed in the axial direction, the center line (L1) of the guide blade across the narrowest width is located closer to the protruding face than a parallel line (L2) passing through the center of the stem portion, the parallel line (L2) being parallel to the center line (L1). |
