The changes of the magnetic field caused by the accumulation of metal particles (09), are detected. A monitoring unit is coupled with the magnetic field sensor, to emit signal based on the detection of critical amount of metal particles. #CMT# : #/CMT# An independent claim is included for rolling bearing. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Magnetic field sensor e.g. anisotropic magnetic resistive (AMR) sensor or giant magnetic resistive (GMR) sensor for detecting wear-related ferromagnetic metal particles in lubricant of rolling bearing or slide bearing (all claimed). #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The pitting effect in the bearing and associated damages can be recognized in an early stage, and the signal for maintenance or replacement of the component can be provided. The magnetic field sensor can also detect the metal particle in nanometer range. Permanent electronic monitoring of bearing state can be ensured such that large machine failures and downtimes of the magnetic field sensor can be avoided.
