The present invention provides a book storage and management system that increases user-friendliness and reduces the time a user takes to find a desired book inside a container and the time taken to confirm the position that a book is housed inside a container, etc. A management device (24) comprises: a memory means (28) that associates book identification information with arrangement information capable of specifying the arrangement position of each book (4) in the container (6); book identification information receiving means (8, 9) which receive book identification information about a desired book; an arrangement information extraction means (29) that extracts arrangement information stored in the memory means (28) and associated to the book identification information received by the book identification information receiving means (8, 9); and a display means (20) that displays the arrangement position of the desired book in the container (6), based on the arrangement information extracted by the arrangement information extraction means (29).
