PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermostat to improve a warming up performance without complicating a cooling circuit and an engine cooling circuit of which main part is the same as that. SOLUTION: The thermostat 20 is equipped with a first valve 1 opening and closing a cooling water inlet 8 connected to a first cooling water passage 22 passing through the radiator 21 and a second valve 2 opening and closing a cooling water inlet 10 connected to a passage 24 out of not less than one second cooling water passage 23, 24 not passing through the radiator 21, the first valve 1 has a valve opening characteristics which monotonously increase according to the rising in water temperature and the second valve 2 has a vale opening characteristics which increase according to the rising in water temperature, thereafter decrease. The engine cooling circuit has the thermostat and a bypass passage 23 of normal open.
