<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce power consumption of an RF coil while ensuring the size of a bore. <P>SOLUTION: The upper half Da of a ring D1 of a birdcage coil 22 has an upper half shape of a circle with a radius ra centering on a reference axis A, while the lower half Db of the ring D1 has a lower half shape of an ellipse with a major axis length of 2r<SB POS="POST">a</SB>and a minor axis length of rb(<ra). A ring D2 is also composed in the same way. These rings D1, D2 are connected by a plurality of legs. The lower half 22b of the birdcage coil 22 can thereby be further separated by maximum Δx from an RF shield 23 than the upper half 22a of the birdcage coil 22.
